Katia Krief is a French artist living and working in the Paris area. She studied art at French Sorbonne University in Paris. Her work plunges us into a deep, timeless intimacy. The bodies presented, mainly female, seem frozen in silent expectation. Dressed in simple taffeta dresses or elegant kimonos, these (sometimes childish) young blooming women, with an ambiguous candor, exude a happy nostalgia and melancholy. We are faced with a personal and unique way of presenting these characters. What we perceive at first glance gradually reveals an extraordinary variation revealed to us by the sensitivity of the pictorial gesture. Krief lets herself be surprised by the material and the effects it creates, letting her instincts take over. She paints with great freedom, almost by magic and yet with great continuity. She instinctively builds her pictorial approach, but with accuracy.
